Krawchuk declines nomination for Senate
In early March, Libertarian Ken Krawchuk declined the Pennsylvania LP's nomination for U.S. Senate, citing the state's "insane" signature requirements.
Third-party candidates in Pennsylvania this year will have to collect a minimum of 67,070 signatures to get on the statewide ballot, along with an extra 30,000 signatures or so to ensure that there are enough good signatures to overcome any challenges.
By contrast, Democrats and Republicans only have to receive their party's nomination.
"There is no way I'm going to ask the Libertarian Party to attempt to collect over 100,000 signatures to get my name on the ballot", Krawchuk explained during a brief address to delegates at the Pennsylvania LP's annual convention.
"For the last year, I have focused all my political energy on eliminating Pennsylvania's unconstitutional ballot access hurdles", Krawchuk said. "I helped hand every single state legislator a copy of our Voters' Choice Act, which lowers the signature requirements, but they haven't moved on it.
"I petitioned the federal government in District Court to rule the outrageous signature requirements unconstitutional, but they haven't moved on that either. I've run out of options."
When state legislators approved a massive pay raise for themselves last fall, they "merely stole our money," he said.
And that's bad enough.
"But with their ballot access laws, they are stealing our rights. As a result, voters in Pennsylvania will go to the polls facing the same old choices they've always had — and the insane ballot access laws guarantee that things aren't going to change."

The Democrats and Republicans like to keep the system rigged so that they are the only choices come election time. Which really means that you have no choice, but the choice THEY give you.
Great.
