But White House spokesman says there are issues in identifying those here legally
The government is deporting some illegal aliens even as it works to allow legalization of others already in the United States for extended periods of time – even if illegally, a spokesman for President Bush confirmed yesterday.
Spokesman Tony Snow, responding to a question from Les Kinsolving, WND's correspondent at the White House, said that there are deportations, but there also are complications.
Snow was asked why cannot the U.S. deport immigrants who have broken the law to enter the United States, and if it doesn't, isn't that disregarding the laws that the nation already has.
"Well, number one, the president does not disregard the law. And, number two, when you have the inability to determine who is here illegally or not, it significantly hampers your efforts," Snow said.
"As part of eliminating 'catch-and-release,' we have, in fact, been deporting people," he said.
"Catch-and-release" was a term used to describe the practice of catching various illegal aliens but releasing them without deportation proceedings, often because they haven't committed other crimes, or at least other serious crimes.

President Bush earlier said part of the solution to illegal immigration "must" include a way for those already in the United States but without legal authorization to be given that status.
At a recent event at the White House honoring Hispanic Heritage Month, he promised that the law would be enforced, even as the debate on immigration is conducted "in a way that is respectful to our heritage."

"...the president does not disregard the law."
Wow, you could have fooled me!
As for not being able to detemine if they are legal or not, what's wrong with asking for their "proof" of being here legally? Don't we have a data base of those who are here "legally" with green cards or temporary worker cards and visas? If not then why not?
This isn't rocket science here. If they wanted to they could do the job, they just don't want to. And once again, all they need to do is enforce the laws we have, go after the employer who hires them, starting with the big corporations, and secure the border so that once the illegals get sent back, or go back on their own, they can not return unless they go about the process legally!
If our leaders can't figure out how to deal with this problem, they need to be reaplaced by leaders who can!
Take care.

Andy- Every looney group attached to pro-immigration, would be accusing lawmakers of profiling.
I don't mind showing my identification whenever it's necessary. I would think that anyone who didn't want to show an ID, is hiding something. |

You are right, but it can be done! Heck Bush can now arrest anyone without cause and put them in jail, so why should there be a problem with the illegals?
The best plan is simple, go after the employer, no "profiling" there, and fine them so much they won't dare do it again, and if they do, well a year in jail might change their attitudes!
Take care.

Well, you wouldn't see Bush going after his rich business associates. I am sure that outfits like 'Eskay, Oscar-Meyer, Procter & Gambol, etc' would never have ICE go after them, as long as the Republican Party contributions keep coming in. |
