A seven-day sweep throughout New Jersey resulted in the arrest of 111 immigrants, 65 who had warrants for removal and 46 who are in the country illegally, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said yesterday.
Of those arrested, 34 had criminal records, the agency said. The immigrants came from 22 countries. The arrests were part of a national effort called Operation Return to Sender.
"Illegal aliens who defy the removal order of a United States immigration judge should be on notice that we have dedicated significant resources towards locating, targeting and arresting them," said Scott Weber, field office director for ICE's Office of Detention and Removal Operations in Newark.
