Sen. Santiago Creel proposed Monday that Mexico, Canada and the United States join forces in the creation of a security zone that would protect all three nations from the Yukon to the Yucatán.
"It is urgent to create a common security perimeter for North America that will at once respect our sovereignty and allow us to fight the evils that have no borders, such as organized crime and terrorism," said Creel, who heads the National Action Party (PAN) bloc in the Senate and once served as President Vicente Fox´s interior secretary.
The former presidential hopeful spoke at the inauguration of the 14th annual inter-legislative meeting of Mexican and Canadian lawmakers in Ottawa.
Speaking as the head of Mexico´s delegation to the summit, Creel emphasized increased trilateral integration, a goal of the Fox administration that mostly languished as the United States focused its attention overseas.
"We have to recognize the fact that any progress made by each individual (nation) enriches the achievements of the others," he told the gathering, which included Rose Marie Cool and Peter Milliken, the presidents of the Canadian Senate and House of Commons, respectively. "Our actions as a whole must be strengthened to yield real benefits to each on of the parts."

Creel- you need to recognize that most of the criminals along and near the border are trying to enter the United States- AND THAT THEY ARE MEXICANS. A big fence between your country and the U.S. will help keep some of your people in where they belong! |
