Some presidents say pretty memorable stuff.
"The price of freedom is eternal vigilance," Thomas Jefferson said in 1801.
Jefferson's quote has been displayed in a glass frame on a wall of Chamblee City Hall for four years, since the building was built.
Alongside it is one from John F. Kennedy: "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price ... in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
Then, there's President Bush, and his quote, which has gone nearly unnoticed — until now.
A new councilman displeased with Bush wants his quote replaced.
"I want that thing down," said Councilman Mark Wedge, a salesman who labels himself independent. "In comparison to these great presidents, I have this guy represent the wall of our city? No, it has to go."
In the frame, Bush's words are accompanied by photos of a bald eagle, the American flag and a title, "Commitment."
The quote: "We will not waver; we will not tire; we will not falter; and we will not fail. Peace and freedom will prevail."
The six-member council is expected to debate the matter at its monthly meeting Tuesday evening.
City employees pass the quotes in an inner hall, on their way to the receptionist desk or the restroom.
They don't make much of the Bush thing.
