The article goes on, “when it comes to punishing sexual violence against women, surprisingly little has changed in a century. In many parts of Mexico, the penalty for stealing a cow is harsher than the punishment for rape.”

As reported in a VDARE article, Mexican Sexual Diversity, “the social status of women in some rural areas is not much better than the Taliban level, where females have no civil rights and are essentially slaves for men.” As an example, a kind of kidnap-for-* custom remains legal in Oaxaca, a southern state of Mexico. But in March, the state legislature reversed itself and again made the practice a minor infraction. A key legislator - a man - argued for the reduction, calling the practice harmless and ‘romantic.’”
