Carpentersville trustees view ballot challenges as attempt to kill immigration ordinance
Formal objections were filed Monday against paperwork submitted by four of the seven remaining Carpentersville village board candidates.
If successful, the maneuver would force candidates off the April ballot.
Before Monday’s deadline, objections were filed against incumbent Trustees Paul Humpfer and Judy Sigwalt, as well as newcomers Keith Hinz and Frank Stoneham, said Village Clerk Terri Wilde, who is also the local election official.
Those four candidates, as well as incumbent Jim Frost and Sherry Dobson and Laura Zambrano, are vying for one of the three 4-year terms up for grabs in the April 17 election.
Exact details of the objections filed by Carpentersville residents Jesse Berreles and Janet Brown were not revealed.
Berreles did not return calls for comment, while Brown directed inquiries to her attorney, Doug Ibendahl, chairman of the Republican Young Professionals of Illinois. Ibendahl said his client’s objection challenges the candidates eligibility to appear on the ballot.
Furthermore, Wilde and Village President Bill Sarto refused to grant a copy of the objections Tuesday because the original documents had not been delivered to Sarto.
