Former president of Mexico Vicente Fox spoke to students Tuesday at the Tate Lecture student forum.

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox stopped at SMU Tuesday as part of his whirlwind tour of the United States to raise money for his presidential library and speak to various groups about his presidency.

An overflowing crowd greeted Fox in the Hughes-Trigg Ballroom for the Turner Construction Student Forum, and his responses drew frequent applause.

The former president addressed questions about issues ranging from immigration to foreign policy.

"I don't understand policies of building walls and separating people," Fox said. He said he is surprised that the United States has decided to construct a border fence. Fox said fences and walls have not worked for Germany or China in the past, and he does not believe it will be effective for the U.S.

Fox said the U.S. would be better off investing the fence money in a fund to generate jobs in Mexico and Latin America. He said North American companies are becoming NAFTA corporations and if the U.S., Mexico and Canada work together, then the immigration issue would solve itself.

The border needs to be secured. Mexico gets alot of our money already, It makes me sick to see what is happening. they've taken cleaning jobs, put landscapers out of bussiness, taken manufaturing jobs, soon they will take truck drivers jobs, I cant get a fast food order given to me correctly, and I have to press one to speak english, and President Fox is going to tell America how to handle the border? Why dont we hand over all our money and the keys to the U.S. already, they are stealing us blind, stealing our identites, causing our hospitals to be closed down and changing our way of life. I drive by sections of roadway here in Texas that the signs are only in Spanish, every costruction crew I pass, Mexican,I cant wait to leave here, I hope the whole country wakes up soon before its to late

So Fox thinks we ought to invest in Mexico? Isn't that interesting? How much investment in Mexico and S. America does he think it will take to fill their greed?

Mexico is the world's 6th largest economy. Problem being that the Mexican elite pay few if any taxes. Therefore there is nothing for the government to manage to produce anything to benefit their people.

Tell Fox to go shake down his OWN people and leave us out of it.

Fox
