|
|
CONCORD -- Republican Mitt Romney greeted rival John McCain's entry into the presidential race Thursday with pointed criticism of the Arizona Republican's immigration stance.
"I don't agree with it; I think it's the wrong course," Romney said at the outset of four appearances in the first presidential primary state. "I do not believe amnesty is the right course for the 11 or 12 million illegal immigrants who are living here. It didn't work in the 1980s; it's not going to work in the 2000s either."
McCain, who announced Wednesday night that he will formally become a candidate next month, previously drafted legislation with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., that categorized illegal immigrants and established different criteria for them to remain in the United States legally -- a so-called "path to citizenship."
Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, said he opposes amnesty, favors securing the U.S.-Mexico border with a fence, and wants to institute an employment verification system through high-tech identification cards.
"If we can do that, then we can solve our problem with immigration. The answer is not amnesty," Romney said to hearty applause from an audience of more than 150 gathered at New Hampshire Technical College.
The McCain campaign had no comment on Romney's criticisms.
During a news conference after his town hall meeting, Romney also sought to turn admitted flip-flops from a possible character flaw into a badge of honor.
Romney, for example, says he formerly supported abortion rights but now opposes them, a conversion he has previously likened to Ronald Reagan's change of heart on the issue.
"If you had somebody in the private sector who didn't change their mind when they knew they were wrong, you fired them because they were stubborn," said Romney, a former venture capitalist.
"I'm happy to admit when I make mistakes and go on. And my experience is that to the voters, the response is overwhelmingly positive: 'We've got a guy who'll admit his mistakes, tell us what he's going to do and he'll honor that.' "

I think he's your typical politician. Slippery. But I am not a Republican. I am a member of the Constitution Party. Just figured I'd be upfront about it. I don't trust him on the Pro-life issue, and I'm not to sure he's big on the second amendment.
In the Republican party I like Ron Paul http://www.dailypaul.com
In my opinion Romney is just another pretty boy.

In my opinion I think that it is quite obvious that Mitt Romney is not "slippery". In fact its quite obvious that he is not. If you compared him to the given chioce of the Republican canidates, he is definately not "slippery" as your favorable canidate Ron Pual. I think that Ron Pual is juvenile and arrogant. Why? well as much as I would hope that we wouldn't have to deal with the war in Iraq on terrorism I feel that it is necessary. Ron Paul has stated many times on occasion that "He will bring the troops back". He wants to withdraw from the War and have the pie in the sky. Well in all due respect, it is ultimately incumbent that WE REMIAN IN IRAQ. I don't understand why people support someone who wishes to withdraw the military who is fighting the people and of the like who caused 911 to happen! On September 11, 2001 The World Trade center was blown to smitherings! The other plane, that by accurate and significent evidence, was known to be headed for the White House, THE CAPITAL OF THE UNITED STATES! If it wasn't for the men who fought them are president and numerous senators and of the like would be died and we would be in a delimma. That day 2,993 souls had there lives taken away from them. 6,291 and more were counted injured and teken to hospitals.
My uncle was there when 911 happened and the twin towers were blown up. He said he saw a three year old kid trampled as the people ran out. Blood on the face of the kid, broken bones, and seperated from the loving care of her parents. This thing is unforgiveable. AND THEY WILL DO IT AGAIN, AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGIAN!! THEY HATE THE United States People!! AND IF THIS YET IS NOT ENOUGH, LISTEN TO THIS. RECENTLY WE HAVE FOUND NUCLEAR EXPLOSIVE METERAIL OR PARTS IN WHICH ONLY PURPOSE WAS TO MAKE NUCLEAR WEAPONS HIDDEN BY THE TERRORIST!!! Well I don't know about you but I am going to vote for someone who will make the right purposes: AND THATS NOT RON PAUL! So in other words: if we allow this, or follow Ron Pual, we just may be seeing what happens in the movies like Terminator when it comes to nuclear warfare. SO IN SHORT: DON'T COME RUNNING TO RON PUAL WHEN WE SEE THE NUKES IN THE AIR! ITS NOT A JOKE! AMERICA PLEASE WAKE UP AND GET WITH THE PICTURE!

Ron Paul is a gentlmen and a statesmen. I am honored to support such a man. A man who is not afraid to speak the truth to the American people. A man who has voted according to the Constituion for twenty years. None of the other candidates can say the same thing. You do remember the Constitution don't you? Its the document written by our founders that was meant to restrict the power of the Federal Government, not the other way around. Its time that the rest of the politicians would do well to remember that.
Just for your information I was a machine gun team leader in the first Gulf War, serving in the Marine Corps. Don't lecture me on the troops, because I was one.
Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and your own President has said as much. There is more Al queda in Iraq now than there ever was before. Fighting the Terrorists over there does not do us a bit of good when your own gov't lets them just waltz right across our southern border anytime they want.
Do you really think that if the Government thought Al queda was a real threat any longer they would leave the borders as open as they are? Unless of course they want us to be fearful all the time. That way they can continue to trample the Constitution and take away more of our freedoms. When people are scared they are more apt to give up there freedom. Of course it was Benjamin Franklin who said "those that would give up their liberty for temporary safety, deserve niether". Thats where I stand. Tragicly all those men and women died on 9/11 at the hands of murdering radical terrorists. So what did we do? We let the head man Osama Bin Laden escape in Tora Bora. Because some one thought it would be a good idea to let the northern alliance troops pursue him instead of our own highly trained special forces.
Since that day they have done nothing to capture Osama and have wasted a trillion dollars and precious lives in Iraq taking down a man that had nothing to do with 9/11. Sadaam was a murderer and I lose no sleep over his death, but we are not the world policemen. Besides we are now re-arming the Sunnis in the south. The very same Sunnis who were once Saddaams henchmen. That does not sound like very smart policy to me.
If we left the middle east tommorow they would just go back to killing each other. Sounds like a win-win to me. We could save all that money being wasted overseas and build up our defenses here to thwart any future terrorist attack. But the truth is a fearful populace is easier to control. By the way the US dollar is in freefall right now, we'll be coming home soon weather they want to or not. Your gov'ts 9 trillion in debt....correction we the people have been put 9 trillion in debt by our irresponsible government, and were broke. We are borrowing 3 billion dollars a day from the Chinese just to fund the war. What are we going to do when they stop lending us money? Whats worse is what are we going to do when they call the note? There are rocky times ahead and its got nothing to do with Islamic Terrorism

We are a little too far away from that now. I don't think fear will work this time, that is of course unless another tragedy occurs for the fear mongers to exploit.
If the Republicans don't nominate Ron Paul, they will lose the next election. That is just the hard reality.
here is a commentary from one of our soldiers. Listen to one of the men who has been there.
