On July 4th 1776, there were two kinds of Americans: those patriots who believed in America, and were willing to give their lives for it, and those called Torries, who would wanted to remain part of England.

Independence Day became a somber occasion for our family upon hearing that a good friend of my sister had been among those 20 special forces soldiers killed in Afganistan. He was a member of SEAL Team TEN. He introduced my sister to her husband, a fellow Seal, and read at her wedding. His friendship to my brother-in-law goes back to high school. This man would gladly give his life in defense of this nation, in the cause of freedom. He served knowing that such a day might come when he would not make it back alive.

That never deterred him. Such is the creed of heroes.

It breaks my heart to hear of an entire helicopter full of such heroes is gone. Who will replace them? Certainly not the 10,000 illegal aliens who sneak past our so-called Homeland Security every day. This is not meant to demean the service of non-citizens (including a handfull of illegal aliens) who have fought and died for this country, but by and large, illegal aliens by their own admission just come for "a better life," for "a chance to work to send money home."

Those brave Americans who perished that day served their nation at great peril and paid the ultimate price so that others could have a better life, and yet we allow those whose only goal is "a better life" for themselves take their place in this land.

And there are American citizens willing to hand over all rights of citizenship to those who breach our borders, and break our law by sneaking in the back door to steal the American dream from those waiting in line to come here the proper way, through the front door by immigrating legally.

Here is an excerpt from a story entitled, "Border is a blurring line" (part of series called "Crossing the Line — Immigration in Northwest Colorado" taken from The Steamboat Pilot of Vail Co.):

Mary Fontana, a 22-year-old recent college graduate, has seen hundreds of people such as Carlos since she came to Annunciation House in October. According to the shelter's records, more than 20,000 people have stayed at Annunciation House in the past five years.

Fontana volunteers in exchange for room, board, bus tokens and $8 a month in spending money. She learned about Annunciation House in a book about volunteer opportunities while she was debating what to do in her year before graduate school. She is one of six volunteers who promise to work for a year - mopping floors, processing donations and learning about the people and the politics of the U.S. border.

"Americans need to realize how lucky they are to be born in this country," Fontana said. "You won the world lottery. If you lose your job, there is a support system. There are free public schools.

"You have all that, not because you earned it, but because you were born here. People look at these immigrants and think they don't deserve to be here, but is that accident of birth enough to bar them from all those things you want for yourself and your family?"

According to the United States government, if you don't have a visa, it is. For the entire article, go here: http://tinyurl.com/7l6rf

If you are offended by the notion that you won the "world lottery", and have not "earned" anything that you have, you are not alone. You are part of the 80% of Americans who make up the "new center" in American politics. We don't care much about the parties anymore. It is clear neither party represents the average American who works hard day in and day out, "earning" enough money to pay his mortgage, feed his family, and of course, unbeknownst to the Mary Fontanas of the world, pay TAXES so that his children can enjoy "free public schools".

There is a movement afoot to equate ILLEGAL aliens with Legal immigrants. Many journalists are careless in their use of the term "immigrant". When used to describe those paying thousands of dollars for the mere opportunity to become Americans, the term immigrant denotes people like Luca Zanna, whose first impulse as an immigrant was to join the army. Seven years later, he had completed every requirement, and on April 29th, proudly took the oath of citizenship:

"I hereby delcare an oath that I absoutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty of whom, to which I have heretofore been subject or citizen. That I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies foreign and domestic. That I will bear true true faith and allegiance to the same. That I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law. That I will perform non-combatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by the law. That I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law. That I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion. So help me, God."

That is the oath immigrants take before they can become citizens. They can be drafted, they can be compelled to serve.

Can you imagine the scandal that would ensue if you tried to hold a draft with 20-30 million illegal aliens living here who owe no loyalty to the United States?

How would it look to send millions of our best and brightest citizens to war while millions of illegal aliens are left in our towns, enjoying the freedoms paid for by the blood of American citizens like those in the helicopter crash?

On July 4th, 2005, there are two kinds of Americans: those patriots who love America, and are willing to give their lives for her, and those who call themselves "citizens of the world", who would just as soon give her away.

There is a debate raging today at the water cooler and in the living rooms of America about the future of our nation.

Which side are you on?

Are you a "give me liberty or give me death" American? Or are you a "peace at any cost" who favors a world without borders?

Are we a nation of cowards or a nation of Minutemen?

Here is how one patriot, who served his nation with distinction, answers the question:

"Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life."
-John F Kennedy

Being born here was only the precursor to being a American. Living here, being productive, contibuting to your community and raising other strong pig headed Americans was the 2nd step and last. It was earned.

Woa. That is the most signifigant read I have had on this website to date. I am speachless. Thank you for thewords of Tim Donnelly which puts everything into a simple and concise frame of mind. Every natural born citizen should read and repeat that immigrant oath, and take it to heart.
