Let’s just set aside the argument of American definition. I'm talking about US citizenship and what that means. I don't care about your ethnicity, your religious beliefs or the color of your skin. Do you believe in the manifest destiny of a man or woman to the basic freedoms granted by a people to govern themselves? Do you believe that all people are created equally? Do you believe in a nation of laws created by and for the people? Will you honor and uphold the Constitution of the United States of America? That my friends is the most perfect ideal of liberty. It has a banner, Old Glory. The Stars and Stripes.
This nation has paid in aces to understand those principals. The tragedy of slavery and the abomination we laid upon the native peoples. But we learned. We are not a people separated by Diversity (racism) but a people united under Liberty and Equality. We are also a sovereign nation not to be trifled with. If you invade our nation we shall deal with you, we shall discharge you and turn inward. We are a nation of the middle class. It is our strength.
Can you be an American? Or are you a Hyphenated American?
God bless America. |
