I agree there does ned to be some changes made. More INS employees would be a good start. It will never happen overnight or in a couple weeks or months time. But, I do feel that a 3 to 4 year wait should be the maximum wait period, anything longer than that is way off track were we are now.
However at this moment, I do disagree with the author on why we are not talking or focused on that. Certainly it is important but now that 28 to 50 million illegals have butted in line, we have to deal with them and boarder security first. The only advice I can give to those standing in line already, to do it legally, Is to join with us in this fight.
I would like to see the legal immigration process handeled efficiently, proffessionaly and thouroughly. Passing background checks is not enough to give a green card to someone the next day. Background checks are nearly worthless since we cannot get information on what a person may have done illegally in another country. So unless they break the laws here, we will not know if they are criminals or not till they break the law here. In this area a (probation time) here, is not such a bad idea. Most inherant criminals begin breaking laws within the first year or two they are here. Which is why I say I think a 3 to 4 year wait is acceptable. |
