Yes it is appauling what is going on across the country to our American clinics and hospitals. I have also knowticed even were I live that they are now bringing in more and more foreign doctors as well. Which I think stinks. Many are educated in medicine in their own countries, which I do not feel are qualified to practice medicine here. But, i am hearing there are less and less doctors coming out of our own American universities due to the horrid state of affairs at hospitals now.

I have heard that they are importing over 100,000 nurses this year. If our hospitals start closing down like they are out in California, we are not going to need those nurses, now are we? Our healthcare system is going to face a major crisis and soon.

Here's the situation in Houston.......

Costs skyrocket for illegal immigrant health care
Posted in illegal immigration, Broken Society on June 19th, 2006 John De Gennaro -->

Yesterday KTRH-740 reported that Harris County taxpayers paid $97 million in health care costs for illegal immigrants last year:

KTRH has learned the Harris County Hospital District is shelling out millions of dollars every year to treat people who are here in this country illegally.

When you subtract what patients paid for hospital district services, and money from federal grants and other sources, $97.3 million dollars is what the local property taxpayer subsidized the district budget for undocumented immigrant care in 2005. That’s 14 percent of the entire hospital system’s operating budget.

Today the Chronicle has more:

Commissioner Steve Radack, who requested the report on the district’s costs of treating undocumented immigrants, said county residents are shouldering a burden created by the federal government.

The federal government doesn’t prevent illegal immigration, but hardly reimburses local counties where the immigrants most frequently settle and use public health care facilities, he said.

“The federal government allows people to come here illegally,” Radack said. “Because of that the cost shouldn’t fall on the local taxpayer.”

The district treated more than 57,000 illegal immigrants last year, at a cost of $128 million. The federal and state governments reimbursed about $28 million, and the patients themselves paid about $3 million. Over the past 11 years, the district has paid about $607 million in unreimbursed costs for treating undocumented immigrants.

The district does not directly ask patients if they are in the country legally, but infers their status from other information gleaned during patient screenings, officials said.

And this is only for the county hospitals. Chris Baker was discussing this yesterday and one of his callers identified herself as an employee of a private, fourteen-hospital group here in the Houston area. She said they routinely write off anywhere from 40 to 60 surgeries each week, because the patients are here illegally and are unable to pay. She said the paperwork will often have Social Security numbers such as 111-11-1111, or 999-99-9999, and bogus addresses, but since hospitals are prohibited from turning anyone away, there is nothing they can do about it.

We have about 45 million Americans that do not have health insurance. It was 42 millions three years ago. U.S.A. is the only one industrial country without comprehensive health insurance affordable for every citizen or legal alien. At the same time, U.S.A. spends per capita for health care more then any other country in the world. Something is wrong here. Illegal immigrants did not cause this problem; they make it only more visible and more drastic. Even kicking all of them out the country tomorrow will not fix our not working heath care system.

You are absolutely correct. We do have untold numbers of legal Americans without health insurance or getting medical treatment.
Kicking illegal's may not solve ALL the problems, but, it will solve many in this area. And certainly take the pressure off the hospitals and tax payers to pay for it. The fact that it does not solve All the problems is not a good enough excuse to continue to use tax payer dollars for their health care, without our consent and vote. And certainly not enough reason to allow illegal's to remain here. What it does do is make more tax payer dollars availiable again, and clear the chaos and smoke so we can then attack any remaining problems. And the funds to do so.

One reason the medical profession claims they have hijacked the prices of medical care to all Americans is to make up for this huge deficet being created by treating illegal's. The American tax payers are being bled from two different levels to pay for this. So yes there is something very wrong with this picture.

No, hak--illegal immigration didn't cause ALL of the problems but think about it. If they weren't draining our hospitals and doctors by getting free health care, the skyrocketing costs would have been possible to control better. Every cent that is spent caring for an illegal immigrant is money that is coming out of OUR pockets.

I, like most of you, don't like the idea of all of these foreign doctors and nurses. If we have a shortage of doctors and nurses in the US, make it more affordable for them to get an education and pay them competitive wages. More and more potential doctors are deciding that it's just not worth the cost of med school when Medicare, Medicaid and all of the insurance companies force them to take huge cuts in their fees. I carefully watch the Explanation of Benefits for my Mother's Medicare and my Blue Cross and doctors are no longer making enough money to warrant the cost of their education and the many long, grueling hours they put in to get there and stay there.
