Major Findings
Income and Wealth
Per capita income of Hispanics is one half that of non-Hispanic whites, and household net worth is less than one tenth.
Fifty percent of Hispanic households use some form of welfare, the highest rate of any major population group.
Crime
Hispanics are 3.3 times more likely to be in prison than whites; they are 4.2 times more likely to be in prison for murder, and 5.8 times more likely to be in prison for felony drug crimes.
Young Hispanics are 19 times more likely than young whites (and slightly more likely than young blacks) to be in youth gangs.
Education
Hispanics drop out of high school at three times the white rate and twice the black rate.
Even third-generation Hispanics drop out of school at a higher rate than blacks and are less likely to be college graduates.
From 1992 to 2003, Hispanic illiteracy in English rose from 35 percent to 44 percent.
The average Hispanic 12th-grader reads and does math at the level of the average white 8th-grader.

In California, the cost of free medical care for illegal aliens forced 60 hospitals to close between 1993 and 2003.
Attitudes
Only 33 percent of citizens of Hispanic origin consider themselves “Americans” first. The rest consider themselves either “Hispanic/Latino” or their former nationality first.

The article fails to recognize that Hispanic income also includes that of undocumented foreign Hispanic immigrants. Considering that the majority of Hispanic undocumented immigrants are in the United States without the proper means to advance (legalization), naturally, if you include them, it does bring our per capita income lower.

The article fails to recognize that Hispanic households percentage could also includes that of undocumented foreign Hispanic immigrants household. Considering that the majority of Hispanic undocumented immigrants are in the United States without the proper means to advance (legalization), so they do not have a means to adequatly support their American children. So naturally, if you include them, it does bring the Hispanic household use of welfare higher.

The report fails to recognize if Hispanic includes Hispanic undocumented foreign workers. That fact alone affects statistics in many ways. Undocumented workers tend to move from place to place, or are deported, which explains dropout rates and literacy rates and all educational rates. Also, because of the fact that they are undocumented, they have less opportunities to succeed, so they resort to welfare programs or crime. That affects the statistics in many ways when you evaluate crime and education and gangs for Hispanic overall. However, if the report is talking about just American Hispanics, well, that's America's crime problem isn't it? Anyways, I know for a fact that many whites and African Americans classify themselves as Hispanic, so that explains also a reason for some of the high rates. Also, many Hispanics classify themselves as whites, which could explain the high levels of success for many of these other ethnicities. For example, when I graduated from High School, I graduated under the race of White. My birth certificate reports my race as White. A few weeks back as I was screening some clients, it was very obvious that they were white based on their skin, hair, eyecolor and names. They were not immigrants, as they all had their American birthcertificates. Upon reviewing their files, I noticed the ethnicity they had used - Hispanic! They were applying for government assitance. Makes one wonder how accurate these statistics are now a day!

 Hypocritical! Now which word did this author use the most? Which ethnicity does this report single out? So what's the reason for this last statistics. Every ethnicity does the same, Whites, African American, Hispanic American, Mexican American, Chinese American. Actually, let me correct that, whites usually don't even include American in the labeling of their ethnicity. They just say White. "I'm white!" instead of "I'm white-American" or "Caucasian American" or "Anglo American". Actually, white isn't even an ethnicity. |
