“There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters.” Daniel Webster
News from CPMN Chair Tammy Houle Will 2010 Be More of the Same? In answering the inquiries that come to the CPMN through our web-site, I have gotten involved in some interesting discussions with various people around the state. Recently, we received comments from a person who is blaming us for causing the downfall of this nation. He said that those of us in third parties are "enemies of the republic" with a "careless disloyalty to the USA". Go figure? Because our candidate for US Senate in 2008 received almost 9000 votes, this person credits us with keeping the "rightful senator Norm Coleman" out of the office and therefore skewing the current balance in the Senate. Granted, with 9000 votes for Coleman there wouldn't have needed to be a recount. But had our candidate not run, I don't for a minute believe those 9000 people would have voted for the likes of conformist Norm. Undoubtedly they would have either not voted in that race or voted for the third party candidate that got 300,000 votes – Dean Barkley. This fine fellow who sent us his philosophical thoughts had this to say, "….you must believe me, I have hated John McCain for many years. However, I was smart enough to vote for all these RINOs, including the detestable Senator McCain, in preference to the current Fascist would be dictator…" His philosophy is, "….go with the guy closest to your views who can win, then try to influence him/her and his/her administration for the good! That's what reasonable people do." Let's see where that kind of thinking has gotten us. Those reasonable people he refers to have facilitated the GOP controlling the White House for the eight years before BO and the entire federal government for six out of those eight years. In fact, the GOP has won seven out of the previous ten Presidential elections. They have controlled Supreme Court appointments for the past thirty-plus years. They have appointed the majority of Treasury secretaries and Federal Reserve chairmen. They have presided over the greatest trade imbalances, the biggest deficits, the biggest spending increases, and now the worst financial disaster since the Great Depression. Not to dismiss the untold numbers who have perished because of the undeclared preemptive wars of aggression they have set in motion and the abortion on demand they have done nothing to stop, the oppressive Patriot Act they pressed into law, etc. ad nauseam…. And this guy says we are the enemy of what's left of the Constitution? Huh? Are those same reasonable people he spoke of going to get behind whomever the major party leadership impels into the endorsements for 2010? Will those same reasonable people support and vote for the evil of two lessers again? Apparently the same reasonable people think those folks running as third party candidates are not worthy of their vote because they don't have the "big box machinery" behind them. I would leave those reasonable people with this quote from Marcus Tullius Cicero, one of the greatest philosophers of all time: “A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling though all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor, he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep within the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear." Time Sensitive News from CPMN Vice-Chair Wayne Zimmerschied It’s caucus time again, the official start of the election season in Minnesota. With public contempt for both major parties, this year provides a golden opportunity to be a break out year for our party. It all begins by holding local caucuses in as many precincts as we have members. The date for Minnesota caucuses is Feb 2, 2010. So far (as of Dec 23) I have information for only nine caucuses, with more expected. Please consider hosting a caucus in your area, or working with others in your town to make sure it happens. We will walk you through the process. If you have any questions, contact me. The first step in hosting a caucus is to secure a meeting location – usually a school, library or other public building. Libraries often do not charge for their meeting rooms, but may not be open Tuesday evening. Schools may have a small charge, but we are classified as a political non-profit organization so any cost should be minimal. You know your area, so choose a location that is easily accessible and that most people will know how to find. The Secretary of State will host a caucus finder website, so we need complete listings by January 14 to submit to the Secretary of State’s office. Send me the date (Feb 2), time (7:00 PM), building name, street address, directions, and a contact phone number and email address. I will assign the coverage areas based on where other caucuses are being held. To host a caucus, there are a few items you need to prepare in advance. • Sign-in sheets. I will send you samples with boxes for Name, Address, Phone Number, e-mail, and district, with check offs for membership status and Newsletter and a space for comments. • Party literature to hand out. All attendees should leave with a copy of the consolidated platform, a business card, candidate material and any position flyers or articles you wish to distribute. • Party Platforms (State and National). Complete platforms should be available for reference, since we will vote on changes to the platform at the spring convention. • Resolution forms, to be voted on by the members of the caucus and indicate whether they pass or fail the caucus vote. Forward all platform resolutions (pass or fail) to the State Vice Chairman. For those not hosting a caucus, there are still things you can do to prepare: • Review our state platform and prepare resolutions for any changes. Bring them to the caucus in written form with the following information: Author, plank to be changed, the current wording, and the wording as you would like it to be. • Party resolutions. Specific announcement or action to be taken that is not part of normal business. • Resolutions of commendation. Acknowledge significant leadership or volunteer activity that goes above and beyond expectations in promoting the party or its principles. News from Veteran’s Coalition Coordinator Leon Moe Fellow Patriots! The following is an update on efforts to regain our State Sovereignty as originally provided in the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution! Minnesota is among 38 states that are currently processing State Sovereignty legislation at some level. As many of you may know the current Minnesota State Sovereignty legislation on House File 997 which was cloned to House File 1437 was a direct result of 4 patriots from the Constitution Party of Minnesota that lobbied the State Office Bldg in St. Paul in February 2009. This legislation got ignored in Committee and we are turning up the heat for round two in February 2010. In that 134 Minnesota House seats are up for re-election in November we are hopeful that we can get more onboard to get this law passed. We need your help to turn up the heat!! Please stop by website link: http://www.mnsovereignty.org/calltoaction.html copy and paste the email, click on Home, and send to all non House Authors and get as many people as you can to do the same thing! More great stuff to follow. Leon Moe Life Member Disabled American Veterans The 'Articles of Freedom' by Ken Lucier The works of Continental Congress 2009 are now available for download. We can, through education and civic action, restore this nation to Constitutional governance over time. Our peaceful options are rapidly being eliminated. A hard document in pocket form will be produced in some weeks as well as a magazine style with a pullout folks may sign and send in. This is a tremendous opportunity to have a liberty coalition team for vigilance in this noble effort on behalf of We the American people. The time is ripe for this action as the unconstitutional health care reform is finalized, and unconstitutional executive orders proliferate. This past week Mr. Obama signed EO 12425 granting Interpol full police rights in the United States without any interference by the FBI, CIA or any intelligence agency. The Copenhagen non-binding climate change accord paves the way for an international cap and trade, and inappropriate executive powers will be given by Congress and the judiciary to the EPA. There have been expansions of the currently unconstitutional wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan, additional powers to the Federal Reserve and another increase in the national debt which until signed had been exceeded in violation by the executive branch. Finally, we continue to have open borders with a new amnesty bill being presented to legitimize it by statute. That is just in the last 14 days. I suspect this is the beginning of a rapid deterioration into a form of government our founders (or even our parents) would not recognize as a Constitutional Republic. It is called an evil partnership between big corporate special interest and big central government, far exceeding its Constitutional restraints. The current predicament is designed to socialize cost and privatize profits. This is a National Fascist design. Government will not own everything, but will control everything. It is here folks. The electoral process alone is impotent as remedy, particularly concerning the most destructive branch (the judiciary). These articles are a call for organized civic action as we are still in control. The control will only be maintained if we will exercise it to defend our freedom and our Constitution for ourselves and our posterity. The choice is ours. Please consider this message seriously. The solution is at hand. Our national sovereignty and remaining personal liberties are in grave danger today. Soon it may be too late. Hopefully this effort will have a life of its own. That life is in the hearts and minds of each of us to play a role in a successful outcome to this blueprint to take our country back from the precipice of irreversible tyranny. Any queries or ideas please contact me at 218 233-4758 or lmlucier@afo.net The Demise of the Two-Party System By Bruce Johnson CD2 Chair The only thing that remains a challenge to the two party duopoly is the third-party and independent candidates who have to climb insurmountable barriers to get on the ballot in many states. In every election, there are additional draconian barriers to overcome. Partisan judges and harassing litigation are employed against candidates viewed by one or the other major parties as affecting margins in the winner take all duopoly system. Severe limitation of candidate choice is assured not just by ballot access barriers, but by widespread partisan redistricting, (gerrymandering) and this has left voters in most congressional districts with certainty of electing the incumbent. At least 95 percent of incumbents will be re-elected on a regular basis. The rise and growth of third parties are limited because the two dominant parties consistently and vehemently agree to keep third parties off the ballot, out of commissions and out of debates. It is crucial that the Constitution Party continues to grow and run more candidates in elections to keep the pressure on the two-party system. We should require federal ballot access reform as a key component to ensure a level playing field for all competitors in our democracy. The terms for ballot access for federal elections should not be controlled by the bipartisan legislatures of the fifty states. There should be one federal law for access to the ballot for federal elections, with de minimis requirements designed only to protect the sole legitimate interest states have in controlling that access---- the integrity of the ballot. We should give serious thought to whether the collection of signatures in public forms has any correlation whatsoever with candidate support in a modern democracy. No large state should require more than 5,000 signatures, and most small states should require only 1,000 or fewer, as Ron Paul has suggested in his legislation to minimize the restrictions for congressional ballot access. With this being said, I would like to announce my candidacy for the Minnesota House of Representatives District 40A seat on the Constitution Party ticket. As you decide whether to sign the declaration, please also remember those original fifty-six men who signed the Declaration of Independence. These men did not just sign a document and then disappear into society. They ran for, and held public office. They put up their time, their talents, their fortunes, and their lives to back up what they believed in. I have heard it said that it doesn’t make any sense to fight the government when you can BE the government. Patriots may need to sign declarations, but they also need to hold office and give what they can to further the restoration of freedom in our land.
