Constitution Party Urges Parents to Keep Kids Home


Lancaster, PA, (September 5th, 2009) The Constitution Party, the country’s fast-growing third party, is urging parents to keep their children home from school on September 8th or skip the class period and lessons which will be devoted to a televised message from President Barack Obama.

Obama is scheduled to address school children ostensibly to “challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning.”

Constitution Party National Committee Chairman Jim Clymer recommends parents send a note to their children’s teachers advising them they will be keeping their children home that day for a “Parent Approved Stay Home from School Day” or asking that their children be sent to study hall during the time the president is speaking to the children.

“The parent-free environment chosen by our most socialist president to date does not stop with the televised address to young, impressionable schoolchildren. The youngsters will be encouraged to read books about Barack Obama”, Clymer noted. Books on Obama contain material of concern to some parents (http://www.puma08.com/2009/09/02/sept-8t...to-read/).

“Should parents opt to keep their children home from school on September 8th, we encourage instruction about the Constitution of the United States and the role of each branch of government. Instead, parents could spend time teaching about our country’s Founding Fathers and their vision for a Constitutional Republic wherein the education of children is not controlled by a central government”, Clymer added.

The Liberty Counsel points out that in addition, our Federal law prohibits the Secretary of Education or any officer from implementing “any direction, supervision, or control over the curriculum, program of instruction, administration, or personnel of any educational institution, school, or school system.” 20 U.S.C. � 3403.

Syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin wrote:” Instead of... reviewing multiplication tables, diagramming sentences, or learning something concrete, America’s kids will be lectured about the importance of learning. And then the schoolchildren, from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, will be exhorted to Do Something — other than sit in their seats and receive academic instruction that is.”

The Constitution Party applauds those states which have decided against airing the Obama broadcast . Oklahoma State Sen. Steve Russell said the September 8th address to school children “...is something you’d expect to see in North Korea or in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq”.

The Constitution Party echoes the sentiments of Arizona state schools superintendent Tom Horne, who said lesson plans for teachers created by Obama's Education Department "call for a worshipful rather than critical approach."

“President Obama is failing in his efforts to push an extreme agenda on the American people. Now he’s focusing his efforts on young, impressionable children, bypassing the filter and influence of their parents. This is a shameless attempt to co-opt our children. It must be challenged”, Clymer warned.
