Another 'big' flexes its political muscle to keep down the 'little' people

Like Big Pharma, Big Oil, and Big Banking, Big Unions are not ashamed to keep down the little guy. This was evident during the AFSCME's Gubernatorial Debate held on Friday, October 9th, in Duluth. Harley Swarm, candidate for governor running under the Constitution Party, was denied participation in the debate.

The reason? The rules for this debate specified that only Democrat and Republican candidates would be allowed to participate. This according to the union’s Jim Niland. Strange, indeed, from a group whose own website states, "we fight for fairness at the ballot box and in the halls of government." Ask yourself just how fair they can be when they limit their support to only the DFL and the GOP - the same two political parties who are destroying the quality of life for Minnesota’s working families.

There is no reason Harley Swarm should not have been allowed into the debate.

-With the Republican candidates refusing to attend, there was plenty of room.
-‘Union membership required’ couldn’t be used, as Mr. Swarm is a member of the Teamsters.
-Party membership isn’t valid either, as the Constitution Party is the third-largest political party in America.

No, this was simply the heavy hand of another ‘Big’ using its political muscle to keep out third-party and independent candidates - just as they have been doing for years. This move by a group that claims they "advocate for prosperity and opportunity for all working families" shows that they simply do not back up their own claims.
