RE: Share your petition success stories
So far we in Alabama have a 100% success rate in running petition drives for access. 08 Baldwin on the ballot, 2010 one US congressional race one State House race, as of Friday of this week the second House race (District 105) in a special election.
Two things we do . 1 When out getting sigs we do NOT ask that the signer support my particular candidate. We stress we are only asking for help gaining access to the ballot and wish to simply provide the voters another choice from the status quo 2 parties in the election. We also stress that it was not our Founders intent that only 2 groups would control the election process. Our founders intended that elections would be open to ALL not just the few that the machines choose. 2 When they sign I will ask that if we gain access they give our candidate fair consideration on the issues and thank them. When we turn in the petitions we keep a copy and send simple thank you cards to those who sign and include the address of the State party and candidates web site for more info. So far every petition we have turned in has seen over 80% of the sigs being validated. Door to door, shopping centers, community festivals and college campuses have all show solid results. We also carry registration forms and will register voters on the spot if they sign the petition. We also make it a point to ASK if they are registered in that particular district before they sign. Alabama is ranked 46 out of 50 in access but we have had 100% success so far in gaining access to the ballot. Sincerely Richard Rutledge Alabama Vice Chair. Hello new2ga... welcome to the forum! Go to http://www.ballot-access.org and familiarize yourself with the ballot access rules for Georgia. Richard Winger edits the site and is the expert on ballot access laws in all 50 states and DC. Georgia is a tough one!
