Living in a state where ballot access is difficult, would some of the members use this thread to share their trade secrets? Details such as "it took 58 of us" or "we rented booth space at 10 county fairs" or perhaps "200 of us each set a goal to obtain 15 signatures"......pretty much anything would help............Where did you go to get sigs? What worked, what definitely did NOT work, etc..........Thank you in advance.

My state party co-chair would go (sometimes with a friend or two) to any local train station in the morning before work. He never had much success in the evening, for everyone is in a hurry to go home, but in the mornings he could get many signatures.

We set up a table at just about every County fair that we could, and got a majority of our signatures there. We also had people go to Homeschool groups. Standing in front of libraries worked pretty well too. We also set up tables at area gun shows. It was a statewide effort by a core of dedicated people.

And thankfully we in Missouri were able to keep our Ballot access for the next two elections due to gaining more than 2% of the vote for our candidate for Treasurer.

(I hope I am not hijacking the thread) I was wondering how the system for obtaining ballot access works. I can see it has to do with collecting signatures, but is there a certain amount? Does it vary form state to state?

At some point, if I decide to officially join the C party, I would like to try to help get ballot access here in Georgia.

Sure, every state has different requirements for ballot access.

I would recommend finding the website for the Board of Elections in Georgia and then look for anything that has to do with candidate info or ballot access. Make sure you look up information regarding independents, as it might differ from the "big two."

Check out http://www.ballot-access.org and you'll start seeing how the two parties have stacked the system against other parties.

Parades. Parades are a gold mine for signatures. People go to the parades early and sit there to get good spots. They have nothing to do until the parade comes. So they just sit. This is a perfect opportunity. Have 10 petition sheets on a clipboard and just walk down the line. 2 people covers both sides of the street. 4 is better, as 2 can walk down each side. Most people will just sign for the fact that it's a third-party. Some will ask about the party (thus it is good to also carry a supply of pamphlets or business cards). Some will then refuse to sign, if they disagree with us. But a good number of people do indeed sign, and some of them often decide to get involved, as they may have never heard of the CP.

So remember Parades!!

Theatre lines or any place where lines form. Be sure to have permission if on private property. If on public property be aware of local ordinances but be ready to tell police to check the law if they try to "move you along". Be sure you are right before pissing off cops!

Good luck! Georgia is one of the most difficult so they can use all the help they can get.

Its also a good idea to set up a booth in front of your local wal-mart or grocery store and collect signatures that way- its a very effective method.
